Mary Loi Yves Kipte Ricalde (born May 27, 2002) better known as Maloi, is a Filipino artist and performer. She is the third eldest member and main vocal of the Filipino girl group BINI.[1]

She entered as a trainee in Star Hunt Academy in 2019.[2]

Maloi's birth name is Mary Loi Yves Ricalde. Her family was originally from Lemery, Batangas where she was born. Her father is an Overseas Filipino Worker abroad, while her mother and her three siblings currently live in General Trias, Cavite.[3]

Life and Career[]

2002-2018: Early Life[]

Maloi started singing when she was three years old, as she loved to sing on karaoke. She joined her first singing competition when she was seven years old, and joining competitions helped her gain more experience and confidence in singing. She also likes to dance and started dancing as a child. Her skill in dancing helped her perform both singing and dancing during her school's events and competitions.[3] In 2018, Maloi and her choral group from General Trias represented the Philippines in a choral competition in Malaysia, where they won three golds.[5]

In 2018, she auditioned in the Star Hunt Auditions held in Laguna.[6]

2019-2020: Star Hunt Academy Trainee[]

Maloi was one of 250 aspirants to undergo the 5-day boot camp, later going on to be selected as a trainee in Star Hunt Academy in early 2019. Under SHA, she further developed her skills in singing and dancing under Filipino voice coaches Kitchy Molina and Anna Graham, and dance coaches Mickey Perz and Matthew Almodovar. She also underwent the intensive Korean training system with the help of MU Doctor Academy, where she learned the Korean practice and discipline in singing and dancing.[7]

Maloi joined her fellow trainees in performing on various ABS-CBN mall shows and other events around the country. She also appeared in a 2019 National Youth Commission event FITFIL: Youth Against Drug, as one of the Youth Ambassadors. They were later invited to perform at the 2019 Manila Southeast Asian Games thanksgiving celebration.[7]

She continued her training even during Extended Community Quarantine due to COVID-19 pandemic. She was locked in along with her co-trainees inside Camp Star Hunt to ensure their safety against the virus.[7]

On October 10, 2020, Maloi became one of the last 8 members of Star Hunt Academy Girl Trainees to graduate from the Academy and was announced to officially become part of an idol group.[8]

2020-2021: Pre-debut as BINI and Official Debut[]

On November 2020, Maloi officially became a member of ABS-CBN Entertainment's girl group BINI, which released the pre-debut single "Da Coconut Nut".[9]

On December 4, 2020, Maloi and her co-members in BINI signed an exclusive contract under ABS-CBN Entertainment and Star Magic Philippines, ABS-CBN's talent agency.[10]

In their pre-debut era, she and her fellow BINI members performed their pre-debut single Da Coconut Nut and other song and dance covers in various ABS-CBN Entertainment shows like It's Showtime, ASAP Natin 'To, and Magandang Buhay.[11]

The group officially debuted on June 11, 2021, with the release of their debut single Born to Win in two-part event BINI: The Launch.[12]
